True Colours

Once upon a time there was a boy called Ahanton……

He loved to play and especially loved to play with other children.

One day Ahanton came across a group of children sitting around an orange mushroom. He asked if he could play with them. They said yes, but he had to wear the orange uniform which they provided. He put it on and joined them.

On another day he came across a group of children playing with green kites. He asked if he could play with them. They said yes, but he had to wear the green uniform which they provided. He put it on and joined them.

On another day he came across a group of children playing with a variety of purple balls. He asked if he could play with them. They said yes, but he had to wear the purple uniform which they provided. He put it on and joined them.

This continued for a long time and Ahanton came to find that it was easier to wear all the uniforms so that he could play with everyone. But over time he found that he was not able to play very well because of the bulk and weight of so many uniforms. He was thinking this over in the forest one day when he heard a voice come out of a tree hollow.

It said “I can feel your frustration and have a solution for you”

Startled he said “Who is that? Where are you?”

The voice responded “I am yet to be formed, but I have a voice which is what you hear.”

“Hello dear voice” said Ahanton. “I would be very happy to hear your solution.”

The voice responded “why don’t you take off all your colours and see what remains?”

“But..” said Ahanton “If I did that I would miss out on playing with so many children.”

“However” said the voice, “If you continue to wear the uniforms you will be too weighed down to play with them anyway.”

Ahanton thought this over for a while and finally said “I think you may have a point.” With this he peeled off all of the uniforms he had accumulated over time, one by one by one until something amazing happened…

When Ahanton took off the final layer, a multitude of colours exploded. As it happened, Ahanton was already every colour under the sun naturally.

“Aha” he cried “I can join everyone just by being myself.”

With this the voice from the tree hollow found its own form, and the most beautiful butterfly emerged

When all the other children saw what had happened they all ran over to play with Ahanton and his beautiful friend, and guess what, it didn’t matter what colour they were.
